Seville from the Guadalquivir: a boat trip
The city makes sense in a different way from the water: the Torre del Oro, Triana, the bridges and the light on the river, at the unhurried pace of a boat.
Why see Seville from the river
Seville exists because of the Guadalquivir. Ships from the Americas sailed up it when the city was the port of the Indies, the Torre del Oro rose beside it to watch over the harbour, and on its bank lived the Arenal, the district of sailors, merchants and chancers.
From the water that relationship is clear at a glance. Triana appears as what it was for centuries, the other bank, and the monumental city arranges itself behind the river. It is a perspective no walk can offer.

By day, the trip is bright and the architecture on the banks is easy to read. At sunset, golden light reflects on the water, the façades change colour and the city begins to light up. Both options make sense; the choice depends on your plans and the time of year.
