Triana: neighbourhood, river and craft
For centuries Triana was the other bank: a district of sailors, potters and tile makers with a character of its own. The Castle of San Jorge, seat of the Inquisition, the market built over its ruins and the ceramic workshops tell a very different story from the monumental centre.
The Guadalquivir as a thread
The river does not divide the two places: it joins them. American silver arrived along it, Triana lived from it and the Seville of the Exposition rose beside it. Telling it this way avoids treating the tour as two products stuck together.
Plaza de España: architecture and symbols
Designed by Aníbal González for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, the square is a manifesto: brick, Triana ceramics and a semicircle that symbolically embraces the Americas. The tiled provincial benches, the bridges and the towers all have a reason.
